Daily micro-habits that help you stay alert and relaxed throughout the day.

“Don’t let yourself become a slave of technology. Control your phone, but don’t let it control you.”

Most users are hooked to their phones. Here are some disturbing data about smartphone use:

  • The majority of smartphone owners are spending between 5 and 6 hours each day using their phones.
  • A typical adult is spending 3 hours 54 mins a day using their mobile devices.
  • We check our phones every day between 150 and 344 times (that’s approximately once every four minutes).
  • In the wake of the pandemic use of smartphones has almost doubled in younger adults.

One of the best methods of reducing the time spent on your phone is to make a list of healthy, productive, and enjoyable alternatives.

The more you can practice these activities in different ways and activities, the more time will you spend using your phone.

It’s not enough to scroll on your phone. Being deliberate about putting your phone away could make a huge difference to your mental game too.

Here are some ideas for how you can purposefully spend your time and not be scrolling around:

  1. Reading Something One of the most effective options to reach for your phone is to read. You can read any book like a thriller, novel, mysterious self-help book, or anything else. It can be a novel or a magazine or even a blog. Try to complete one book every month, and then take note of how it goes.
  2. Make your life more organized The entire time you’ve been glued to the screen could have been spent organizing. It could have been used to tidy up your home, cook a couple of healthy meals for the upcoming days, or plan the entire day. If you feel as if you’re always “in the dark” during your schedule, it might be worthwhile spending a few hours less with your smartphone or using the phone to help get yourself more organized.
  3. Go outside If you are spending a lot of time using social media it is possible that you are doing the majority of your time in one spot. To move your body and refresh your mind, go outside, whether it’s even in your yard. It can provide a refreshing energy boost.
  4. Write a Journal Hello, to the most therapeutic therapy one can ask for: writing on paper. Giving yourself the opportunity and time to record your thoughts can bring a glimmer of clarity to your life. The best part of journalism is the fact that it is no “right” or “wrong” method to use it. Don’t be a slave to your thoughts allow your pen to flow whatever you write at the end of the day is yours and therefore, it is legitimate. What you decide to share with the paper is completely your choice. There could be feeling that you have to let out or details from your day or a momentous memory you’d never want to erase, or just announcing the things or people you feel thankful for.
  5. Do something original instead of taking in other people’s creative output (aka their content) why not do something uniquely on your own? Make use of your creativity and be creative like making music, painting or writing, photography DIY projects, building/fixing things, etc. Research has shown that engaging in creative pursuits boosts satisfaction and cognitive performance while reducing anxiety and stress. Furthermore, activities that involve creativity are prone to triggering a euphoric state which is an incredibly very powerful mental state to be in.

Furthermore, you’ll be able to spend time with friends or family rather than scrolling through your mobile. What you are seeing in social networks is only an aspect of their lives meeting people in real relationships, getting to know them, and getting to know the real you. Take a stroll around the park and meet new people and discover!

If you consider it, there’s a lot to be doing instead of being connected to your mobile all often. Consider it and take steps toward it!
